Tajikistan Advances Cryosphere Agenda at UNESCO

On 12 June 2025 at the initiative of the Republic of Tajikistan, in cooperation with UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP), a high-level side event entitled “From International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation to the Decade of Action for Cryospheric Sciences 2025-2034” was held in Paris.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan during his speech, he informed the participants of the event about the outcomes of the High-level International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation, which was convened by the Government of Tajikistan from 29 to 31 May 2025 in Dushanbe, in partnership with UNESCO and WMO.

The event highlighted the crucial role of glaciers in the climate system and the importance of their preservation, which was further reinforced by the adoption of the Dushanbe Declaration on Glaciers Preservation, calling for stronger international scientific cooperation and sustainable investment in cryospheric research.
